1932 Ford 3-window Coupe

This 1932, full fendered, 3-window coupe was bought in 2014, from the late George von Backstrom’s estate, who imported it, unassembled from Southern Rods in the U.S.A. back in 2004. This package included a Pete & Jakes chromed front end and suspension as well as a Currie 9″ diff with QA-1 coil overs. After a lot of deliberation and clearance problems, we decided not to use our pre-fitted Chev 502 big block crate motor, but opted midstream in the build, for a Corvette LS1 engine & 4L60E auto box on the stamped & boxed ’32 Brookeville chassis instead. A reinforced inner cage was fabricated and is hidden under a custom built inner fibreglass skin. VW Golf electric windows modified and built in. ’34 Ford outer door handles and swan mirrors installed, as well a ski-boat mirror in the cab. Suicide-door dead locks fitted (just in case). An imported chrome front windscreen surround was modified to fit. The louvred side panels and hood were fabricated by Bern van Gass, the custom inner door panels, as well as the complete build. A Budnik steering wheel on a Speedway tilt steering column fitted. There are also 2 purpose made sub frames under the running boards for strength.

All switches, buttons (LED’s) and electric controls are under the seat. Battery and fuses are located in the trunk. White Dolphin gauges nestled in a Billet Specialties surround. King-bee headlights with built-in turn signals and cat-eye LED taillights fitted. Black calf leather on a modified Ford Bantam tilting bench seat. Neodymium magnets used, instead of latches, to keep the trunk and hood closed. Custom radiator and throttle body snorkel with BMC air filter made by Nic v/d Merwe. Stainless steel custom TNT exhausts with Cherry Bomb mufflers fitted with AMG slanted tips. Custom LEMON CHROME yellow 2K paint used all round. Hidden wiring & electrics expertly done by Clint & Wesley Mann. Torque Thrust II wheels put the finishing touch on this project. Completed Feb 2019.
