1964 Nova Station Wagon

SURF WAGON !!   Built LHD……Bought in May 2016 from Erik Mouton in Langebaan as an abandoned project……..This 1964 Nova Station wagon has an early-sixties GM semi-unibody configuration, having a bolt on front section joined to it’s unitized body. This original weak design was beefed up by using a new full custom chassis, designed and built in-house by Bern van Gass. This strong frame will prevent twisting and flex from big block motor launches as well as giving better road holding. The old rusted floor & some panels was completely replaced with new metal and Dynamat was fitted throughout including the inner doors. A new CPP Nova front clip kit, with sway bar, shocks, discs (front & back) and rack & pinion as well as our own custom rear 4 link was fitted. A brand new crate 502 Chev motor with a three speed 400R gearbox replaced the old 4 banger. The inner rear wheel arches were custom tubbed to fit the big drag meats. The 12 bolt Chev diff was shortened by Cedric Saffy. The large and outdated sun roof opening was closed up, then sprayed with a pink/red flake, as was the custom bikini sun visor. A grunter custom 3-1/2  ft truck aluminium radiator, fitted with twin electric fans for cooling was squeezed in front and a custom 140 litre fuel tank was fitted – both these items were fabricated by Nic v/d Merwe.

The fuel cap was turned 90 degrees and relocated backwards to match the new tank. Interior mods include a smoothed out dash with all holes closed. A Shiftworks custom tach was imported, fitted in the blank space of the original speedo cluster and VDO gauges fitted in new slanted holders. Magnetic closing glove box lid with cup holders built in. A quintessential Lokar shifter was used with a custom blue knob. The steering wheel column is custom cupped in the dash. The paint is a self mixed Tidal Pool Blue, gloss on the inside of the engine bay and the whole interior BUT sprayed matte on the outside to accentuate the shadow in the body lines. The roof lining and all inner panels are colour matched.  Most of the moldings and emblems were discarded to give a cleaner/fresh look. Light blue/grey calf leather used for the bench seats and steering wheel. Exhausts and headers were custom made by TNT with cable operated cut-outs fitted. The wiring was done by Clint & Wesley Mann…  Busy with final tweaking
